Moderators and you
There are many things moderators can do on this site. From rearranging topics and moving boards, all the way to deleting posts and banning members. Moderators require a very trustworthy person at the reigns.
Here is a little bit of general information to help you out in regards to moderators and admins.
Moderators:
When a moderator edits a user's message, there are specific guidelines they must follow:
-The post has to infringe upon the rules in a major way.
-The entire post can not be edited out unless the entire post was in violation.
-Whenever a post is edited, the moderator has to explain reasons for the edit in the "moderator text", and sign the edit with their username.
Moreover, there are bigger rules in place when it comes to the deletion of a thread or post:
-A Moderator can NOT delete a topic or post without Administrative approval.
-The topic or post has to be in clear violation of standardized forum protocol and/or site rules.
-The moderator is required to send a PM to the user who posted the comment or thread, addressing the exact reasons it was removed (This does not cover blatant spam attacks). In the same message, the moderator has permission to tell the user which admin gave permission for the deletion of said post or thread.
When it comes to locking topics, there are some general rules to follow as well:
-The Moderator must post in "Moderator text" why the thread is being locked.
-The moderator can not lock a thread for necro unless the thread is buried under multiple forum pages, or over 6-8 months old.
When it comes to moving a topic there are a few ground rules that may get a little complicated for the Mod-to-be:
-The topic has to be clearly out of place.
-When moving a topic to a different board, you must create a new topic in its place called MOVED: Thread name.
-The new thread should include a link to the new location of the original thread.
-Moderators should be warned NOT to use the function to create a shadow topic in an old thread's place. It does NOT work the same way as creating a MOVED: topic.
I would also like to state for the record that admins have the same privileges as Moderators and then some, but we still follow our own rules. Whenever we make decisions, we will be sure to mention them in Admin text, which you are seeing an example of right now.
